Camas: Skyridge Middle School students Charis H., left, and Elizabeth C. will be able to print copies of The Hawk Eye Gazette, their online student newspaper, thanks to a grant from the Camas Education Foundation.
Skyridge Middle School students Elizabeth C. and Charis H. have won a $500 grant from the Camas Education Foundation to publish issues of the school's Hawk Eye Gazette newspaper. The fledgling monthly student newspaper was launched in the 2007-08 school year and was only available online or in five copies at the school library. The co-editors created a PowerPoint presentation for their grant application, and Holscher presented it to the Camas Education Foundation's board in early February. The pair had asked for a $1,500 grant to print the paper in color but received $500, so the paper will have to print in black and white. There will also be fewer copies to distribute. The student publication is offered as an elective at Skyridge and has about 15 student contributors.
